Obituary for
Salvatore Russo
Salvatore Russo passed away May 16, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born on October 18, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Charles and Carmela Lazzara Russo. At the age of 10 months old, he returned to Italy where he was educated.
In his late teens, he returned to the United States and served his county for four years during World War II. Most of his service time in the Marine Corps was spent in Quantico, Virginia.
Upon his Honorable Discharge, he relocated to his wife’s hometown of Wilkes Barre, Pennslvania and then to Mount Vernon, New York. He worked for more than 40 years as a butcher for Finast.
Salvatore was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Matilda, his children Jeanne (Mario) Cavalli, his adoring grandchildren Jeannine (Jamil) Salman, Stephanie (Michael) Trchala, and his great grand niece Valentina Longhi. He will be truly missed by his three great grandsons AJ (Alexander James) Salman, Nicholas Mario Salman, and Michael Matthew Trchala who brought so much joy and happiness to him.
Salvatore was predeceased by all of his siblings: Frank, Joseph, Leo, Carmela and Concetta.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 4 to 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter and Paul Church on Friday, May 19,2017 at 9:45 AM. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
